I was given a Hamilton Beach slow cooker to do this review and make a recipe with Franks Red Hot sauce. Take a look at this yummy Franks Red Hot Sweet Pork Roast. It was so good. The whole family could not stop raving about it. My son actually said 'this is the best pork roast I've ever eaten!'. Cool.

The making of a Frittata: ConAgra, WalMart, Guide to Leftovers.
This time of the year, we get tired of eating the leftovers after a while, don't we? Thanks to #FamilyMeals at Collective Bias, and ConAgra I put my thinking cap on to see what I could think of. Recently, my daughter and I discovered Frittatas. I had made them before but after the first time we tried it, we loved them! We went to WalMart with this in mind and got what we needed to make one with ham leftovers.
This is what we used:
6 eggs
1/4 cup milk
leftover meat, we used about a cup of ham
1/2 bag thawed out frozen veggies, we used broccoli/cauliflower
1 onion, sauted in #Parkay
Use #Pam in your casserole dish so it doesn't stick.
Mix eggs and milk, pour in dish. Add remaining ingredients. Put in oven (425F) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
It tastes sooo good. You can add any veggies you like, any meat you like. I've used spinach and bacon and it was 'delish'.
For more info about these great #ConAgra products, click on each word for more info. #Pam, #Parkay, #ReddiWhip, #Wesson, #SwissMiss, #PeterPan
Click on the Whrrl below to view my shop to Walmart and the products I bought.

Went shopping for #Orowheat Sandwich Thins
Today was such a busy day. I went shopping for #Orowheat Sandwich Thins at Walmart for #CollectiveBias. I have tried these before and really liked them, I had 2 coupons that will expire at the end of December, so I thought this was a great time to use them.
There are so many different kinds of breads out there, it could send a novice bread buyer (yes, I'm sure there must be some out there) into a tailspin.
There they were, at the end of the aisle, after the bagels, english muffins and hotdog buns. There were also up kind of high (Ok, I'm 5'2" and almost everything is kind of high me, but still) so it was hard to find them. Good thing I had my tall (5'7") daughter with me and we were looking specifically for them or we might have passed them by.
There are 3 different kinds, at least that's what my Walmart had and I bought Honey Wheat. I brought them home and had tuna on them and let me tell you, they were soooo good. My kids also like them so it's not just me. They're kid approved, for sure. I had to 'call' the last 2 left so I could have them the next day for lunch. I swear.
So make sure if you want some of these, you look for them so you don't miss them. And trust me, you don't want to miss them.
Take a look at my whrrl for even more information.......

Went shopping at Walmart for #ColdStoneCocoa
My family and I had a great time this weekend decorating the house, inside and out, to make it Christmasy. We decorated the outside with lights and put up the Christmas tree inside because my 11 year old wanted to put it up so bad. As a reward we went to Walmart today and I bought some #ColdStoneCocoa. Take a look at my Whrrl below to see how it went.

What brings you comfort and joy?
What brings your comfort and joy? Something pops into my mind so quickly and overwhelmingly I must tell you about it.
Last year, even before what should have been cold and flu season my 11 year old son got sick and almost immediately I got sick too. Here I was, with a high fever, trying to drag my son to the bathtub because he had a high fever that wouldn't break. I had so little energy I could barely sit up nevermind carry my son to the bathroom. All of a sudden, my 20 year old daughter showed up out of nowhere to literally save the day. She came in to see me sitting next to the tub and him crying because he was so cold. "Mom, go lay down, I've got this." So off I went, back to the couch while my daughter give my son the rest of his tepid bath, trying to get his fever to break, which thankfully it did.
She stayed here, with me and her little brother, being Nurse Nightingale, for a solid three days, replacing our Gingerale and boxes of Kleenex, and making us soup. She let me sleep during the night and stayed up until 6:30 in the morning, not sleeping at all in case her little brother woke up because he told her he felt safer knowing she was close. She went to bed when I woke up, but only for a few hours and then woke up in time to make me chicken noodle soup for lunch and take care of us all over again.
It was likely the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. How she never got sick with H1N1 like we did is still a mystery but I'm glad she stayed 'sick free'. I always knew I raised a wonderfully caring daughter, this just proved it.

14 ways to have a fresh and festive holiday
How do you keep the holidays fresh and festive? Here are some ways I do it.
1. When I decorate my house I often use Christmas scented candles to make it smell festive. My husband has a thing about getting a real tree so we always have a fake one. I use pine scented candles to make it smell like I actually have a living tree. It makes me feel good.
2. Homemade cranberries are such a highlight to our table during the holidays. We could go and buy it out of the can but that's just so boring. Cranberries, sugar and water is all takes from homemade cranberry sauce and it's really the one and only thing besides a turkey and stuffing that my kids make sure we have for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
3. I make people crocheted items for Christmas and send them off in the mail. When I do I put half a sheet of Snuggle fabric softener in it. I've actually had people call me and ask what scent it is because they love the way it made their item smell.
4. I always have homemade cookies for the kids in the freezer. I have a 'to die for' shortbread cookie recipe that tastes even better when they're frozen so I keep them in a container and every time we have company they come out. Always a good idea to have extra cookies around.
5. When I launder my sheets and blankets and put them away I put a Snuggle fabric softener sheet in between each sheet/blanket. When you take them out to be used they still smell clean and fresh. Such a great thing when you have unexpected guests. It makes them feel special.
6. Fresh cabbage salad. Most people might call it coleslaw but this was something my dutch grandmother used to make all the time for Christmas and I love it. Shredded red and green cabbage, shredded carrots, shredded celery, Miracle Whip and done. This was always my favorite growing up and it reminds me of her when I make it.
7. When putting up my inside Christmas lights I always make sure I outline doorways. It adds a special welcoming feeling when you come in. It's a really nice, warm feeling.
8. Every year I take the kids to the store (Walmart or Target) and they each get to pick out one new ornament. It's a tradition. I have 2 grown kids, a teenager and an 11 year old so I have a full tree. It's fun to look back at the ornaments from years past.
9. Every Christmas Eve my kids get to open one gift from me. It always contains new pajamas and a coloring book or something to do. That way, on Christmas morning when you're taking pictures the kids always look their best in their new, often Christmasy, pj's.
10. We live in Texas so it's never snowy on Christmas Eve. We have a bonfire and roast wienies and marshmallows. It's become a great family tradition and a great way to get more clean, fresh air. I take pictures every year around the campfire. Eventually I want to put them all in a book.
11. Fresh egg nog is also a long standing family tradition that my father started many years ago. Homemade too, not bought from the store. Every Christmas morning, after all the gifts have been opened, he gets up from his 'dad chair' to make egg nog. It's easy. It's fresh. And boy, oh boy, is it good.
12. Right about now every year, my kids start looking for the clemintines to come out in the store. They love the fact (when they were little) that they have little baby oranges that they can peel for themselves. My youngest usually has one or two at a time.
13. Getting a live Poinsettia is always something I do too. I do have cats and dogs so I have to be careful the cats don't get into them but I find it adds such an elegance to any table they are sitting on.
14. Lastly, we always wreaths on our doors to welcome our guests, from family to the UPS guy. It's always a conversation piece because I let the kids pick a theme and we decorate them together. Sometimes they're a bit cooky, but that makes it even more fun.

Fiber One Giveaway. Enter today
If you’re dieting, chances are you’re hungry! You know skipping breakfast or drinking that diet shake just isn’t going to cut it. When diets leave you hungry, you can find yourself off-course and giving into dreaded and seemingly inevitable cravings. | |
We encourage you to start a discussion with your readers about their worst over-indulgence moments, and how Fiber One® Original cereal can help stop hunger from taking diets off-course. Fiber helps satisfy your hunger so it’s easier to eat less and lose weight without feeling as hungry.
Now, for the fun stuff...... You can enter to win this great gift package from Fiber One cereal and MyBlogSpark. It has a box of cereal, a note pad, a fantastic stainless steel water bottle, a scale to weigh your food on and a very cool bowl that you can carry your cereal in and your milk, keep it cold using a cold ring in the bowl...it's just very cool! Trust me. This cereal is not like any other cereal I've ever eaten. I like to eat it as a snack in the afternoon to get me through until dinner time. I usually eat it without milk too and it tastes good like that as a snack. It's also good on yogurt, and yes, I even tried it on a small bowl of vanilla ice cream this past weekend (defeating the purpose a bit huh?) and it added a nice crunch and taste to the already yummy ice cream. Don't be afraid to add it to things you wouldn't normally add it too. My daughter suggested crushing it and using it as a coating for baked chicken. I haven't done that yet but it doesn't sound like a bad idea! If you would like to enter for a chance to win this there are a few easy ways for you to do so. 1. Leave a comment. Maybe let me know if you have tried this cereal in the past and what you think of it. 2. Subscribe to my daily email updates. Leave a comment letting me know. 3. Follow me on Twitter and leave a 'Tweet'. Come back here and leave a link to it in the comment section. 4. Make a blog post about it and leave a link to it in my comment section. 5. Become a Google follower. Leave a comment letting me know. I will pick a winner using random.org on Nov 22, so you have until Sunday November 21st 11:59pm CST to enter. And don't forget to visit this post to a possible free box of Fiber One cereal, or at least a high dollar coupon for one. |

Protecting your family against the flu this season
Getting the flu sucks, right? Well, my family knows that first hand after our experience last year. My (at the time) 10 year old son and I both came down with H1N1 at the same time. It was likely the most sick I can remember us being. Not only did I have to take him, with a temperature of 104F, and put him in the tub to bring his fever down, but I had to do this while I, myself, had a fever myself. It was horrible. Yes, we both made it through but I learned an important lesson...GET YOUR FLU SHOT!
My son got his flu shot in school and will again this year but I will make sure I go to my local drug store, or almost any store right now that has a pharmacy included in it, and get my flu shot. I don't want to be as sick as I was last year, ever again.
A couple other things I learned are as follows:
Here are some more facts about the flu and the flu shot:
• Everyone 6 months of age and older is recommended to be vaccinated against the flu.
• The flu vaccine provides protection that lasts through the flu season.
• The flu vaccine is updated each season to protect against the three flu viruses that research indicates will cause the most illness.
• You need to get the 2010-11 seasonal flu vaccine even if you got the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine last season.
• If you or your kids do not like shots, the flu vaccine is also available in mist form. For more information on this, ask your doctor or visit www.cdc.gov/flu.

A couple other things I learned are as follows:
- Medicine: Always keep medicine on hand. By the time you need it, if you don't have it in the house, it's too late.
- Hand sanitizer: Always make sure you have some on hand. And use it! I leave some at the computer, in the bathroom and in the kitchen right next to the hand soap. I also remind the kids to use it.
- Tissues: When you're sick you're nose gets runny, then raw. Help yourself out and keep some tissues, preferably anti-bacterial or with lotion.
- Chicken noodle soup really is the best food to 'eat and ginger ale really is the best drink to drink. Well, that and Gatorade or another kind of sports drink, to make sure you stay hydrated.

Amazon gift cards from Viewpoints
We all know how fast Christmas is approaching, don't we? And we all worry about how we're going to pay for EVERYTHING on our little 'angels' lists. I already use Swagbucks to earn Amazon gift cards and my favorite is ExpoTV but now there is another one and it's Viewpoints. Here is the information I got in my email this morning.
All you have to do is write a review of 900 words or more and you will get Amazon gift cards. Trust me, I thought 900 words was a lot too until I started writing. It goes by quickly. I've written 10 so far, just this morning. I'll get at least another 10 in before the deadline of Oct 7th without a problem. Then 30 days later I will get my Amazon gift card in my email. Which will be great, seeing how all the Christmas/Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales will be right around the corner then!
Gift cards will be sent out within 30 days of the program conclusion. This program ends October 7, 2010. Read official rules >>

9 Lives gift pack for your furry feline friends
I love my cats. Duh, right? Well, I wasn't aware what harm I might be doing them by not reading the nutritional facts on their cat food. Thanks to 9 Lives I'm not just 'buying in the dark' anymore. I'm paying attention. See what they had to say....
A survey of feline pet parents across the country commissioned by 9Lives found that an overwhelming 94 percent of cat owners are confident they feed their felines the most nutritious meals possible. However, nearly half (48 percent) admit they’ve fed their cats table scraps – which do not provide the essential nutrients cats need – an average seven times per month. Additionally, only 30 percent know that giving your cat milk may not be a healthy practice due to the common incidence of lactose intolerance in adult cats.1 Additional findings include:
In an effort to educate pet parents about the common misperceptions of proper feline nutrition, 9Lives is committed to raising awareness to this issue by providing advanced nutrition for all cats. With the 9Lives Advanced Nutrient System, feline parents everywhere can rest assured knowing their cats are getting the essential nutrients they need to help promote healthy skin and coat, strong muscle growth and a healthy immune system among other benefits. Thanks to MyBlogSpark and 9Lives, I was provided a lovely gift box for my three cats. Since yesterday they have been enjoying a bag of 9Lives cat food and cat toys and I've been 'enjoying' the new pooper scoop, as well as some coupons for some free cat food. If you would also like a gift pack for you and your kitties to enjoy just enter this giveaway. For your 1st entry please subscribe to my daily updates. (Ok, they're not daily but I try), then come back here and leave a comment that you have done that. If you already subscribe you can tell me that too. For your second entry you must go to www.9Lives.com to receive nutritional information on the Advanced Nutrient System then come back here and tell me something you learned that you didn't know before. For a third entry tweet about this and leave me a comment, leaving a link to your tweet. For a fourth entry you can blog about this and then, of course, come back here to leave a comment with a link to your post. This contest will close Oct 3 at 11:59pm CST |

Get gift cards as rewards from ExpoTV, just like I do
To say that this is my favorite rewards program is an extreme understatement. I was just chosen to participate in a Kraft review that I will get 2000 reward points for (it takes 600 for $5 in Amazon e-certificates or CVS gift cards) AND a $20 Visa gift card. All of that, just for my opinion...gotta love that!
You can do it too, just go here and sign up. It doesn't take long at all to do a review. Heck, if I can do it, anyone can do it.
For even more information, go here to check out an earlier blog post.

5 simple things you can do for your child to help keep their smiles healthy and bright."
I am a big believer in oral health and have been taking my kids to the dentist since they were little. I had a lot of problems when I was a teenager with crooked teeth and didn't my kids to face the same kind of problems. So when it comes to keeping your child's smile bright and teeth healthy, what do you do?
Here are 5 things I do:
1. Brush twice daily. Yes, it's a no brainer but there are times when it feels like a tug of war and you have to stay on them to make sure it's done right.
2. Let your kids pick out their toothbrush and toothpaste. It will make them more likely to use them if they've picked them out.
3. Floss. There are new, what I call, flossy-picks out that are easy for your kids to use and they can really do a good job with them I find.
4. Go to the dentist. As soon as your child cuts his/her first tooth, take them to the dentist. Get them used to the smells and sounds of the dentist office so when they do need to get work done it won't frighten them.
5. Chew sugarless gum or eat an apple after a meal when you get to your toothbrush. I call them 'nature's toothbrush'.

10 tips for saving money during the back-to-school season
It's hard when you have kids going back to school and the list for each of them is as long as your arm. TwitterMoms has joined with Staples to try to help make it a bit easier for moms and dads this year.
Here are my 10 tips for saving money during the back to school season....
#1. Don't wait for the back to school season. Periodically through the year things your kids will need for school go on sale. Stock up then. When your kid comes home with a note saying 'Little Johnny needs xyz' then you have to run out and find whatever you can and inevitably pay a lot more for it.
#2 Sign up for emails from companies. I just got an email in my inbox this morning for a 20% discount off of Dell computers. I get emails from Staples and many other places letting me know of upcoming sales with coupon codes to buy online, etc.
#3. At the end of the year your child (at least MY child) will get a list of supplies your child will need for the upcoming school year. Stick it in your purse and carry it around with you just in case you come across a good sale.
#4. ThredUP I found this website and it's awesome! It's a website where you can trade off clothing your child has outgrown for clothes that will fit. You list a 'box' of clothes for others to get. They pay the shipping, you send the box. Then, you pick a box of clothes that will fit your child, pay the shipping and you get the box in your mailbox. No shopping involved. I just got my first box in the mail the other day and it was fantastic!
#5. Garage Sales/Yard Sales. I haven't been out this year, but in the past I was able to get a lot of clothes for my son at yard sales. When kids are small they don't have a lot of time to wreck their clothes before they're outgrown so this works very well.
#6. Match coupons with sales. This is likely the only time of the year where you will find coupons for things like pens etc. Take advantage of it and get free pens, stick it notes and more.
#7. CVS. My favorite 3 letters in the alphabet. Go to CVS, scan your Extra Care Card and get coupons for things you can buy in the store. This time of the year they have a lot of stationary coupons that print out, and along with the sales they have every week, you can nearly stock up for an entire year on some things. I still have pens from shopping there last year.
#8. Hand me downs. I know it sounds simple but a lot of people don't have kids they can hand clothes down to. Reach out to your extended family, like cousins and such. There must be someone. Offer them something your child has grown out of for their small ones. It all pays off in the long run.
#9. Join Freecycle. I can't tell you how many times I've given things away or received things from this website. It's an online swap. If you need something, ask for it, you just never know. If you have something, offer it. Even though it's no good to you, it might be perfect for someone else.
#10. Your county. I've seen so many places in my area (near Dallas) that hold 'back to school clinics'. They offer free school supplies, free shoes, free haircuts, free immunizations, free dental and free eye checkups. If I lived closer I would have gone. There is one in my county as well, I just have to find out where. Call your local Chamber of Commerce to find out where your closest one is.

My favorite ways to earn money and gift cards online
I must admit, about a year ago when I started filling out surveys and doing reviews I did it only sporadically so I didn't reap too many rewards for it. Since I decided to concentrate on a few specific places and do every survey that was thrown at me, wow, it's become so much more profitable.
Of course, we all know about Swagbucks. Just use their search engine and get 'bucks', easy as that. Get enough swagbucks and you can get prizes, including gift cards to places like Amazon (my favorite) and Paypal. And now they even have surveys you can do to get to your points goal faster!
There is Opinion Outpost, which is one of my top 3 survey sites. Typically, a survey is around 20+ points. You need at least 50 points to be able to cash out. My favorite way of cashing out is by getting an Amazon e-certificate. For 50 you get $5. For 65 points you get $6.50 etc. I just bought my son's 'back to school' shoes from Amazon by using money I earned from Opinion Outpost. I love, love, love this site. And you can do it fast too. There are times when I can earn $10 in a week!
Lightspeed Panel is another good one for earning gift cards. I generally get CVS or sometimes Amazon from them. They send their cards out quick too. It's a little harder to qualify for their surveys and you have to act quick or they're 'filled up' but you can earn points quick on here too if you qualify for the survey.
Ipsos I-Say is a quick earner too but they don't have as many surveys that come out. It takes a bit longer to earn the points but if you get a few good surveys it happens fast. I just got a $10 American Express gift card in the mail after doing only 3 surveys. Not too shabby! And I got the card fast too, so that's a good thing.
My Points is an easy way to earn points too. All you have to do is sign up and click on emails you get. Each time you do that you get 5 points. You'd be surprised how quickly it can add up too. There are also surveys you can take. You can buy things through participating websites (too many to mention) to earn more points too. You can get Target, Walmart, CVS gift cards as well as Paypal and Amazon e-certificates too.
I think my all time favorite is Expo TV. They send you an 'invite' to a product. You decide if you want to review it. If you do you earn points. You have to have the product and show it to review on video but these are items that I almost always have at home. Here is my feed if you want to get some idea what I mean. This is THE BEST place to earn enough points for gift cards or other things.
There is also a program associated with them called Tryology where you get free products if you will post a video review of them. It's awesome!
I can't rave enough about Expo TV. Soon they'll be coming out with more ways to earn points too. I love this place. That's why I saved the best until last!!
